Greetings of the season from a small town in the Far North of New Zealand to all of the International Opticians Association family throughout the world wherever you might be.
2023 has been a remarkable year for me personally as I have made a return to working as a full time dispensing optician. This has given me the opportunity to reflect on the aspects of this role which have changed since I began my career in the mid 1980’s and the things that have remained the same. This year I have worked in a variety of practices and been exposed to a wide range of frame and lens products from different suppliers which is ever changing. As eye care professionals, we are not short of options to ensure a successful outcome for the customers in our care.
It is a privilege to be in a position to meet as many different people as we do in this role and to provide a solution to their visual needs from all that is on offer. It is especially rewarding to listen to them and find out who they are, this has always been my favourite part of the job.
It is my first year as President of the International Opticians Association and its been a pleasure to meet a great many new people both in person and virtually. I would like to thank all the people who support this Association with their time and efforts to ensure that we continue to grow and promote the role of the optician globally.
