Although there are hardly any qualified opticians in China, there is much interest in better spectacles and dispensing. Current president of the IOA Fiona Anderson, along with Director of Development Elaine Grisdale will be lecturing at Vision China later this year. This is the third year that a team of UK experts from the Association of British Dispensing Opticians have travelled to take part in the event and exchange knowledge. The event is in Beijing from 26th to 29th July. The focus for the lectures will include lifestyle dispensing: is one pair of spectacles enough, and paediatric dispensing.
In another positive interaction between the UK and China, Wenzhou University optometry and ophthalmology students will be coming to ABDO College in Kent, UK, for the second optics summer school . This successful event is running for the second year. Currently 50 students are being interviewed for 16 places now.
